The 32nd Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals was the biggest ever!
This year marked the 60th anniversary of General Motors ban on racing, Pontiac’s Super Duty program was certainly “winning on Sunday and selling on Monday” in both NASCAR and NHRA events. Courtesy of Mike Huffman, we presented a display of Super Duty Pontiacs, the likes of which probably hasn’t been seen since 1963! It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity…and spectators turned out to the tune of 12,455 of them…a record number for us!
The combined car show and race car count was also a record number of 1,077 participants; race cars were down slightly from our 2022 record number of 433, this year we had 418…but the car show carried us to our new record with 659 vehicles on display for the weekend! We gained car show field thanks to Summit Motorsports Park’s removal of gravel and seeding of grass behind the grandstand, which we put to good use. We had less than a dozen car show spots left by 2pm on Saturday afternoon, it looked spectacular from the top of the grandstands.
The swap meet continues to thrive, for the third year in a row, we’ve sold out all 436 spaces before the event opened. We are planning some changes to make space for more vendors, as we continue to have a waiting list for swap spots.
We had to revamp the manufacturers’ midway to make space for the Super Duty car display, plus we had some new vendors this year. We are pleased to have space available for new, and re-conditioned product vendors to keep your vintage Pontiacs looking and running like new.
Once again, our dates for 2024 are July 19th to the 21st, mark your calendars now! Pontiac had a lot to celebrate in 1964…and we are going to mark the 60th anniversary of those great cars with all of our Pontiac friends and family at the 33rd Ames Performance Tri Power Pontiac Nationals. We will see you then!
